Location: Newcastle, NSW
Contract: 12 months with the possibility of extension
Rate: $55.24/hr + Super
Hours: 7.6 hours/day | 38 hours/week

About the Role
Are you a skilled communicator with experience in policy interpretation, procedural guidance, and accessible content development? We’re looking for seven APS5 Guidance Officers to join a dynamic Federal Government agency in Newcastle.

This role involves developing and refining guidance materials, interpreting legislative frameworks, and ensuring alignment with agency standards. Working under limited supervision, you’ll contribute to enhancing the participant experience by delivering clear and effective procedural guidance.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Research, draft, and update internal and external guidance materials with a participant-focused approach.
  • Interpret and translate the NDIS Act 2013 and related rules into clear, plain English content.
  • Develop or update guidance materials based on participant and stakeholder feedback.
  • Provide advice and expertise on procedural guidance, practice implementation, and operational matters.
  • Collaborate with team members to achieve program, project, and business outcomes.
  • Ensure high standards of accuracy and governance while managing multiple priorities.
  • Contribute to continuous improvement and innovation within the branch.
  • Represent the agency in relation to guidance development and support.

Essential Skills:

  • Strong writing skills with expertise in plain English and audience-appropriate content creation.
  • Ability to translate legislative and policy information into clear, accessible guidance materials.
  • Proficiency in developing project plans, monitoring progress, and managing priorities.
  • Strong stakeholder engagement and collaboration skills.
  • Experience drafting a variety of written materials, including guidelines and knowledge articles.
  • Familiarity with Customer Records Management Systems and process documentation.
  • Ability to work independently, maintaining high accuracy and meeting deadlines.
  • Adherence to APS Values and Code of Conduct.

Desirable Skills:

  • Experience with Confluence and JIRA project management tools.
  • Familiarity with government style guides and accessible design principles.
  • Ability to work effectively in a geographically dispersed and online team environment.
  • Strong critical thinking and problem-solving skills.
