Business Continuity Specialist
Opportunity
Long-term contract (hourly rate, 37.5 hours per week) with Federal Agency undergoing multi-year digital transformation and technology uplift program. Initial 12-months with options to keep extending. Flexible work arrangements. 2-3+ year program, seeking an experienced Digital Continuity Specialist.
Key duties and responsibilities
Reporting to the Assistant Director of Digital Operations Performance Management your main responsibilities will be:
- Business Continuity Planning: Working with the governance team to develop and maintaincomprehensive business continuity plans and procedures for digital systems, applications, and processes to minimise the impact of disruptions and ensure timely recovery in the event of disasters or emergencies.
- Risk Assessment and Analysis: In partnership with digital security and others conduct DR risk assessments and analysis of the digital environment and develop mitigation strategies to address them.
- Incident Response Planning: In partnership with the service desk develop and maintain major incident response plans and playbooks for digital events that could or do lead to disruption or are impacted by a disaster or unexpected event. Identify roles, responsibilities, and escalation procedures to facilitate prompt and effective response to these types of events to minimise downtime.
- Testing and Exercising: Coordinate and conduct regular testing be it tabletop exercises, or exercises with vendors and digital teams. Work with the governance team in preparing and testing any commission wide tests. And subsequently evaluate their effectiveness, identify gaps and recommend improvements to response capabilities.
- Documentation and Reporting: Maintain accurate documentation that meets governance, audit and compliance requirements. This would include business continuity plans, procedures, test results, incident reports, and lessons learned. Additionally providing regular reports to leadership on the status of digitals business continuity preparedness.
- Training and Awareness: Provide training and awareness programs for digital teams to enhance preparedness and response capabilities.
- Continuous Improvement: Monitor industry trends, emerging threats, and best practices to enhance business continuity strategies and plans.
- Vendor Management: In partnership with Digital Asset Management, evaluate the business continuity capabilities of vendors to ensure contractual agreements include appropriate business continuity requirements and service level agreements. Develop, implement and review strategies, frameworks, policies and procedures reporting to Director on progress status.
Requirements
- Proven experience in business continuity planning, disaster recovery, or risk management, with specific experience in digital or technology environments.
- Strong understanding of business continuity principles, methodologies, and best practices.
- Knowledge of digital technologies including cloud computing, virtualisation, networking, mobility and cyber.
- Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills, with the ability to assess complex situations and develop effective solutions.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills and be able to communicate technical concepts to technical and non-technical stakeholders.
- Proficiency in business continuity planning tools and documentation software like SharePoint.
Please note, the successful applicant will be required to obtain AGSVA Baseline Clearance, hence Australian Citizenship is a requirement for the position.
