Data Engineer
Purpose / Role Details
The Data Engineer will join the data engineering team and be dedicated to the migration of data products and ETL processes to an Advanced Data Platform (ADP). This platform has been designed to modernise data capabilities and support digital innovation and AI initiatives.
In this role, you will be responsible for executing the migration from an on-premise SQL Server data platform to a Snowflake instance on AWS. This will include, but is not limited to, the technical implementation of data assets and associated pipelines, platform configuration and administration, and providing recommendations on best practices to improve efficiency and reduce costs.
Key Duties and Accountabilities
- Deliver robust, well-engineered solutions with minimal supervision.
- Apply best practices for ETL and data processes, ensuring quality and consistency across development, testing, and production environments.
- Work with stakeholders (including business and technical teams) to gather business requirements, facilitate data processes, and ensure platform performance, security, and sustainability.
- Analyse complex healthcare data to provide business-critical insights and support strategic decision-making.
- Research new technologies, apply innovative solutions, and provide technical advice on data and analytics strategies.
- Provide guidance on data architecture best practices and collaborate with business analysts to deliver effective solutions, including data marts.
- Contribute to the continuous improvement of data platforms by analysing future state requirements.
- Assess design options, conduct impact analysis, and manage associated risks.
- Manage platform configuration and administration to ensure the platform functions effectively.
- Develop and maintain operational documentation for complex ETL systems.
- Take responsibility for delivering work outcomes on time, using effective project, resource, and time management.
- Collaborate effectively with both internal and external stakeholders, and produce clear, concise written documentation.
- Ensure your own health, safety, and well-being, and take reasonable care to ensure your actions don’t adversely affect the health, safety, or well-being of others.
- Be accountable for information security and management in accordance with legislation, policies, and procedures.
Role Criteria
- Tertiary qualification in Information Technology, Computer Science, or a related field.
- 5+ years’ experience in data warehousing and pipelines, including SQL ETL.
- Proven experience with AWS and Snowflake services.
- Experience in executing a cloud migration of a data warehouse is highly preferred.
- Previous experience working with healthcare data systems is desirable.
- Strong interpersonal, written, and oral communication skills, with the ability to influence and work collaboratively with senior stakeholders.
- Ability to work on-site at facilities within the Gold Coast region.
