To support this vision, IP Australia is creating a specialist data and technology branch with a core focus on ensuring that our people have access to the best tools, products, and services to enable us to meet our commitment to customers.
The Role
As we seek to realise the benefits of our investment in data and artificial intelligence to deliver efficient and sustainable services, we are seeking a natural leader to join our executive team as General Manager, Data and Technology (Chief Information and Digital Officer). This role is essential to the success of IP Australia’s strategic goals, with accountability for integrated data, technology and AI solutions that support business operations, the design and implementation of technical and data architectures, ensuring efficient and reliable technology operations, management of cybersecurity risk as Chief Information Security Officer and more.
The General Manager, Data and Technology, will:
- Drive strategic realignment of platforms
- Manage the implementation of data and technology assets
- Manage budgets, giving thought to optimal resource allocation and cost-effective solutions
- Ensure the future direction of IP Australia with supportive data and IT architecture
- Collaborate with business areas to deploy technological and AI advancements that improve business operations
- Create a strong talent pipeline that supports the future direction of IP Australia
This is an ongoing opportunity, classified as SES Band 1, with a location preference of Canberra (Ngunnawal Country), though Melbourne (Naarm Country) will be considered. Employees close to these locations will be able to maintain a hybrid working arrangement.

You will be able to demonstrate a proven track record in:
- Strategic leadership of technology, data, and AI functions, including support of business units with these functions
- Oversight of flexible delivery models, including deployment of resources into agile teams
- An innovative and experimental mindset and willingness to accelerate the use of AI technologies
- Relevant tertiary level qualifications are desirable, as well as membership of relevant professional associations and institutions.
It is a requirement of this position that the successful candidate must be an Australian Citizen and hold a current Australian Government security clearance at the Negative Vetting 1 level.
