Play a key role in the development of natural resource management policy and sustainable resource management for a prominent regional council.

About the Role

This is a fantastic opportunity to play your part in leading and shaping the policy work programme at a prominent New Zealand regional council.

You’ll provide sound technical advice, guidance and leadership on the development of natural resource management policy and promote sustainable resource management.

As the Principal Policy Planner your technical advice and expertise will be key to shaping and leading the policy work programme, driven by national policy direction and requirements under the Resource Management Act. You’ll lead the One Plan review and associated plan changes, robustly navigating changes in national policy direction and legislative change.

About You

We’re seeking someone who has a background in environmental planning and a strong understanding of resource management and policy development under the RMA.

Ideally, you’ll also have experience in:

  • resource management policy development
  • project and programme delivery in this arena
  • engaging with iwi and hapu
  • local or central government experience, and
  • a tertiary qualification relevant to resource management planning.

In addition, you’ll have strong written and oral communication skills (including the ability to present to various groups), and excellent relationship management skills.
