
Senior AI Engineer
- You can be based in Canberra, Sydney, Brisbane or Melbourne
- Citizenship minimum requirement, Baseline clearance preferred

- Hybrid work available – you are expected to travel to Canberra at least 4 times per year at your own expense.
We are currently seeking two experienced Senior AI Engineers to join a high-performing, multi-disciplinary team supporting innovative AI/Automation projects within a federal government agency. In this role, you will help shape the agency’s future through the delivery of AI solutions, contributing your expertise in machine learning, software engineering, and data science.
Working as part of the AI & Frontier Technologies team, you will collaborate with like-minded professionals to develop and deploy machine learning models and automation tools that support the agency’s strategic vision. This role offers flexible hybrid work arrangements, with preference for candidates located in ACT, NSW, QLD or VIC.
Key Duties:
- Design, develop, and implement AI and automation components in collaboration with software and machine learning engineers.
- Deliver production-ready machine learning capabilities as part of a multi-disciplinary Agile team.
- Apply cutting-edge technologies and innovative solutions aligned to emerging trends.
- Leverage AWS (with a focus on serverless applications) to develop and deploy scalable AI solutions.
- Support the DevOps and MLOps lifecycle from development to production environments.
- Engage with internal stakeholders and team members through clear and effective communication.
Skills & Experience Required:
- Extensive experience in AI/ML technologies, including Natural Language Processing, Deep Learning, Classification, and Image Recognition.
- Strong background in DevOps and MLOps practices, with end-to-end delivery experience.
- Demonstrated experience in full stack development and cloud-based deployments (AWS, Azure, or GCP).
- Ability to work autonomously under broad direction within a hybrid/remote team environment.
- Relevant ICT qualifications and/or industry certifications.
- Excellent communication skills, with the ability to explain complex AI solutions to non-technical audiences.
