The role

The International Civil Aviation Organisation (ICAO) will be undertaking a full-scope Universal Safety Oversight Programme (USOAP) safety audit of New Zealand in 2025. We’re therefore seeking a Senior Aviation Advisor to lead this important piece of work.

The project will be divided into three phases: audit preparation, audit participation, and post-audit follow up.

In this role you will:

  • take the lead on this project as TAIC’s primary ICAO safety audit programme subject matter expert (SME) and co-ordinate a comprehensive review of TAIC, covering the 84 Protocol Questions relating to Annex 13, AIG audit technical area 6,
  • in collaboration with aviation investigation leaders, play a key role as the SME in delivering to the ICAO audit team,
  • co-ordinate the post-audit follow up actions.

In addition, you’ll provide SME input to support TAIC investigations on request.

This is a fixed term position of 12 months, and we’re able to consider applications for a public sector secondment.

About you – skills and experience

Key to this role is experience within aviation investigation and ICAO aviation safety audit programmes.

In addition, you’ll have:

  • tertiary and/or industry qualifications in an aviation area
  • excellent project management skills
  • a very high level of accuracy and attention to detail
  • the ability to anticipate and identify issues and risks
  • excellent communication skills including very strong technical writing capabilities
  • the ability to collaborate with a wide range of people to meet objectives.

This role is based in our central Wellington office.

About the organisation

Multi-disciplinary teams investigate and analyse the circumstances of these occurrences, supporting the Commission to consider the facts, and make findings and recommendations to improve transport safety, rather than to ascribe blame.
