Senior Business Analyst

We are currently looking for a Senior Business Analyst for a large state government department for a contract until 20.06.2025 + likely extension based in Brisbane CBD with 50/50 hybrid working arrangements.

The Department is undertaking the following activities and this role will be responsible for analysing and development of requirements, working with other team members and a dedicated developer to complete the work.

  • Replace an existing complex data warehouse system, that draws data from a Power Platform system, with a simpler Azure synapse-based system and a .Net API.
  • Redevelop an old Court Display application to use modern programming languages and principles.
  • Update a Court Listing Tool that consolidates and transforms court event information from various sources, such as Case Management systems, and integrates with several consumer systems.

    As the Senior Business Analyst, you will:

  • Lead and manage business and systems analysis activities for the activities listed above.
  • Identify, develop and review requirements specifications (ranging from business, functional, non-functional, user, and implementation requirements) for ICT enabled initiatives, managed activities or projects.
  • Establish relationships, collaborate with, consult and influence both business and technical stakeholders to effectively discover, define, validate, prioritise and continuously manage requirements that translate into business benefits.
  • Apply appropriate business analysis frameworks and be able to promote and provide advice on use of appropriate techniques, methodologies, and tools, preferably aligned with Business Analysis Body of Knowledge.
  • Identify project delivery issues and risks, assist with mitigation strategies, and escalate where necessary.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead, manage and mentor fellow team members.

    Technical ability:

  • Proficiency in creating process flow diagrams, business process modelling (BPMN), and understanding process optimization techniques.
  • Skill in eliciting and documenting clear, concise, and comprehensive business requirements using techniques such as interviews, workshops, and prototyping.
  • Familiarity with Waterfall and Agile development methodologies and software development, from requirements gathering through to testing and deployment.
  • Capability to write technical documentation, user manuals, and other project-related documentation that is clear and understandable.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills to identify root causes of issues and propose effective solutions.
  • Skills to negotiate priorities and resolve conflicts among stakeholders with different interests and objectives.
  • Capability to work collaboratively in a team environment, including cross-functional teams, and to build consensus around proposed solutions.
