
Senior Data Analyst
Our client is a federal government organisation with offices throughout Australia. Due to growth, they are seeking several EL1 Senior Data Analysts to join their team in their Richmond or Geelong office.
- 12-month initial contract plus 12-month extension, excellent rates negotiable
- Richmond or Geelong location, hybrid with 3 days per week onsite minimum
- Federal government role – Australian citizenship required
- Candidates with Security Clearance preferred
The EL1 Data Analyst will exercise a considerable degree of independence to engage in very complex problem solving and issues management within the risk functions. The position will exercise sound decision-making and judgement to produce high level policy advice and operational support.
The position is required to assume responsibility to undertake detailed or sensitive projects that may include performing varied activities involving many different and unrelated processes or methods that may impact on the strategic or operational outcomes that support the clients objectives.
Key duties and responsibilities:
- Undertaking day-to-day analytical work and project management on a range of tasks including regular and one-off analyses and ad hoc requests.
- Maintaining knowledge in understanding business areas with regard to business context, goals and key performance indicators.
- Contributing to the development of reporting, assisting in the establishment of quality assurance and governance processes around all branch reporting.
- Analysing data, interpreting trends, utilising problem solving, and connecting analysis and insights to address problems and questions.
- Collaborating with key staff within the branch and across the Agency to ensure consistent use of data and reporting, and internal and external messaging.
- Presenting the outcomes of work undertaken and tailoring to context across various forums.
- Mentoring and development of a small group of less experienced team members.

Essential criteria
- High level data analytics skills – posses strong data analytics skills, in particular SQL (ideally SAS EG/SAS Viya), with a good knowledge of data visualisation and statistical analysis techniques.
- Problem-Solving: Identifying and solving complex data-related problems
- Critical Thinking: Analysing data objectively and making informed decisions
- Effective Communication: Ability to clearly communicate complex data insights to both technical and non-technical audiences.
- Collaboration: Working effectively with cross-functional teams.
Desirable criteria
- Knowledge of programming languages like Python and R
- Experience in fraud analytics
- Strong understanding of statistical techniques and machine learning
