Scope of Position

Seeking a suitably experienced Network Architect for multiple projects during this engagement period. Current projects include, but not limited to, Storage (SAN) and compute upgrades, operating system upgrades, SQL and Oracle database upgrades.

Criteria for success

The Network Architect will design, implement, and maintain a complex, hybrid networking environment tailored to meet the needs of government and enterprise operations. This includes expertise in Government Wireless Network (GWN) integration for emergency services, as well as familiarity with GovNet infrastructure.

The candidate will demonstrate proficiency in Cisco and Juniper platforms, dynamic routing, wireless solutions, and advanced data center networking technologies, including Cisco ACI.

The architect must also be capable of managing hybrid environments, including seamless integration of Cisco and Juniper hardware, while ensuring security, high availability, and scalability. The role demands extensive hands-on experience, the ability to manage operational dependencies, and a strong capacity for advocating organizational needs, even within government-driven multi-agency networks.

Desirable

CITEC:
* Experience with CITEC or similar outsource vendor.
Government Wireless Network (GWN):
* Experience with radio networks used by GWN or similar topology.
Govnet:
* Familiarity with GovNet systems and their role in supporting QLD government operations or similar topology.

  • Knowledge of DWDM technologies for Ethernet and SAN in data center-to-data center connectivity.
    * Familiarity with Telstra APN for secure, high-speed connections.
    * Hands-on experience with DMVPN and Dynamic VPN solutions.
    * Strong background in redundancy and failover configurations for both ISP and data center environments.
    * Certifications such as CCIE or JNCIE

Branch Networking:
* Expertise in Cisco Wireless infrastructure, including:
* Access Points (APs) for branch offices.
* Wireless LAN Controllers (WLCs) located in data centers.
* Experience with Cisco routers configured for SD-WAN (Meraki or Viptela).
* Familiarity with MPLS networks connecting branch offices to the head office.

Data Center Networking:
* Hands-on experience with Cisco ACI (Leaf, Spine, EPG, VRF, Nexus 9000)
* Comprehensive understanding of overlay and underlay technologies.
* Familiarity with transitioning Cisco ACI environments to alternative solutions and the associated costs/challenges.
* Experience with Cisco switching platforms (e.g., WS-6500).
* Strong expertise in dynamic routing protocols (BGP, OSPF, EIGRP).

Proven experience with cross-platform integration and operations.
* Expertise managing Cisco and Juniper hardware (e.g., MX450, MX480) in hybrid data center environments.

Deliverables

  • Develop and implement network designs for GWN and GovNet integration, ensuring optimal performance for QFD and the separation from Agencies.
  • Design branch office networks with VRF-based segregation, QoS policies, and SD-WAN solutions for high availability.
  • Deliver scalable and secure data center network architectures, leveraging Cisco ACI and hybrid Cisco-Juniper environments.
  • Optimize wireless networks for branch offices using Cisco WLC and Access Points.
Integrate and secure radio networks within the broader architecture using VRFs for network segregation.
  • Create detailed documentation for all network configurations, troubleshooting protocols, and integration processes.
  • Ensure compliance with regulatory and security standards across all network components.
Advocate for the agency’s unique requirements, ensuring independence from PSN’s generic solutions and achieving tailored, business-aligned outcomes.
