
Technical Lead - Workforce Identity & Access Management
Our client is a federal government organisation with offices throughout Australia. Due to growth, they are seeking multiple Technical Lead in Workforce Identity and Access Management to join their team in their Richmond or Geelong office.
- 18-month initial contract plus extension, excellent rates negotiable
- Richmond or Geelong location, hybrid with 3 days per week onsite minimum
- Federal government role – Australian citizenship required
Key duties and responsibilities:
The EL1 Technical Lead for Workforce Identity and Access Management is accountable under broad direction to undertake very complex work that delivers quality outcomes across the Cyber Security and Resilience functions of the client.
The position will exercise a considerable degree of independence to engage in very complex problem solving and execution of major Identity and Access Management projects and works within the Cyber Security and Resilience functions. The position requires exercising sound decision-making and judgement to produce high level policy, design advice and operational support, as well as a high degree of technical expertise to lead the development of secure Identity solutions.
Key duties and responsibilities
Responsibilities of the role include but are not limited to:
- Being directly responsible for the delivery and overseeing of complex and highly technical Identity and Cybersecurity workloads and projects.
- Being a technical leader among Workforce Identity Engineers, leading by example in delivery of Identity outcomes and projects, and working with the Assistant Director to plan technical deliverables and priorities for the team.
- Applying skills within Microsoft Entra ID domains, including user lifecycles, access packages, Privileged Identity Management, and Conditional Access.
- Applying skills within development, including infrastructure-as-code, code release pipelines, Graph API, and automations.
- Delivering high quality designs and solution architectures that are fit for business purpose, align with business requirements, and contribute to key strategic objectives such as Zero Trust.

Essential criteria
- Demonstrated expertise in designing, implementing, and supporting secure Identity and Access Management solutions in Microsoft Entra ID.
- Demonstrated experience working with Microsoft-focused development and automation tools, including Graph API, PowerShell, and Automations and Runbooks.
- Demonstrated understanding or experience migrating or disconnecting from legacy on-prem Identity solutions and moving to Cloud-First solutions.
- Demonstrated ability to negotiate and advocate for Identity and Security priorities with business stakeholders, in the form of presentations, designs, and other methodologies.
